For several days I have been testing the POCO M3, the brand’s latest cheap smartphone built by Xiaomi. At first glance, this is one of the best options in its price class. I decided to check how good the POCO M3 is.
The Xiaomi POCO M3 (which in theory should simply be called the POCO M3) is the cheapest phone in the history of the young brand, created, of course, by Xiaomi.
Due to the fact that POCO tries to offer the best smartphones at the lowest prices, many users have high hopes for the POCO M3, although its price is low – for example, on AliEpress it costs about 11,200 rubles in the version with 64 GB of memory.
I’ve been testing what the POCO M3 is capable of for several days now. It’s too early for full testing, so I prepared something like first impressions of use.
Thoughtful plastic case with a controversial accent
While a plastic case in a phone for about 30,000 might be controversial, using it in a model for 1/3 that amount is hardly a bad thing (although I would have liked to see a metal case).
The head designer of the POCO M3 must have been a fan of Sony’s Xperia E4, because the body of the discussed equipment consists of two elements, the back of which seems to fit on the body of the phone. However, this is an erroneous impression, since the structure cannot be dismantled.
It is extremely interesting that the plastic used does not pretend to be glass, as is the case in many other phones. The Chinese opted for a rough texture, thanks to which the material used resembles a combination of plastic with leather and rubber. Thanks to this, the POCO M3 does not “smell” cheap. It is also a non-slip surface for increased comfort.
I still don’t know what to think about the glass insert at the top of the back.It doesn’t look as weird live as it does in graphics or press photos, but the whole concept takes some getting used to. But is it really necessary to add such a large POCO inscription there?
Thanks to the curves and the already mentioned texture, the POCO M3 fits well in the hand. However, it must be remembered that this is a large phone and not everyone can experience the same feeling.
REPLACING THE BATTERY!
In the POCO M3 specification, the battery is particularly impressive. It has an impressive 6,000mAh battery and is definitely above average. The same can be said about the working time, because for the first time I managed to overcome the 10-hour barrier on the screen.
It is a shame that Xiaomi did not try to charge the smartphone a little faster, because 18W allows you to recover energy in more than two hours. On the other hand, it could always be worse …
In any case, I hope that in the course of further tests, the POCO M3 battery will surprise me even more on the positive side and will not allow any unpleasant troubles.
Camera and screen are pretty typical for this class of equipment
In early 2021, even low-cost smartphones can offer triple-block cameras, which looks impressive on paper. Unfortunately, the economy has to be found somewhere, which is why the optional POCO M3 lenses are not that practical.
The POCO M3 has two 2MP sensors. One of them is responsible for blurring the background in portrait mode, the other is responsible for macro photography. Here are the results of their work:
But the main unit looks good. It’s a 48MP (1/2 ”) sensor with an aperture of f / 1.79. So far, I haven’t taken many different photos because the conditions are the same all the time. However, I have some sample photos
At first glance, it is difficult to talk about a big surprise. That’s okay, of course, in terms of how much you should pay for the POCO M3. In the same way, you can specify about the screen.
POCO decided to use an IPS matrix, which is not surprising, it would be an exaggeration to wait for an OLED / AMOLED panel in a new phone for this money. However, the consumer may be tempted by the higher refresh rate.
Fortunately, it has been taken into account that the PPI should be appropriate for a screen size of 6.53.Full HD + resolution allows it. It’s easy to see that many of the newer models, often clearly more expensive, are based on HD + displays, which is a plus for POCO.
The main parameters of the POCO M3 screen are satisfactory – the brightness is acceptable, the color rendition is quite correct (certainly not pale), the black does not frighten the gray.
Performance is simple
The POCO M3 components seem to be a strong point in its performance. The Snapdragon 662, 4GB LPDDR4x RAM and 64GB UFS 2.1 or 128GB UFS 2.2 are really a specific set.
Unfortunately, the animation initially had some strange thoughts and tricks that were undoubtedly related to optimization problems.Fortunately, the POCO M3 has already received an update focused specifically on these aspects of operation, and it has been significantly improved.
Not perfect yet, sometimes you can see small jerks. However, progress is noticeable, so the POCO M3 has chosen the right path, and very soon any shortcomings should be a thing of the past.
